Bravettes strike early and often in Keota win

KEOTA – The softball Bravettes scored 8 runs in the first inning and didn’t look back in a 26-9 win over Keota in five innings on Friday, May 31.

The Bravettes lined 17 hits and stole 11 bases.

Sydnee Burgess had 3 hits and drove in three runs.

Chloe Snook had 3 hits, including a double, drove in 3 runs and scored 5 times.

Madison Van Zee had 3 hits and drove in 4 runs.

Kam Schmidt had 3 hits and drove in 2 runs.

Vivian Cook had 2 hits.

Winning pitcher Leah Urfer only needed to work 1.1 innings. She allowed one run. She didn’t walk a batter, hit one, and struck out 3.

Burgess pitched 1.2 innings. She gave up 2 hits and 5 runs, all of them earned. She struck out one, but had some control problems.

Madison Van Zee pitched 2.0 innings, yielding 2 hits and 3 runs, 2 of them earned. She walked one and struck out one.

NOTE: Wet grounds caused cancellation of Montezuma’s scheduled two-game tournament at Van Buren County on Saturday, June 1.

Keota fell to 0-5.
