The seniors were recognized and the opponent was defeated when Montezuma hosted Sigourney for the final regular season individual conference volleyball match Monday, Oct. 7.
Scores in the 3-0 Montezuma victory were 25-14, 25-16 and 25-11.
Seniors Maddy McKeag, Shelby Conger and Waverly Roorda were honored for their years with the volleyball program.
It was a methodical win for the Bravettes, who took their record to 12-13.
The Bravettes had a strong serving match. They were good on 68-of-74 attempts, a .919 percentage, with 11 kills.
Conger and Roorda each were 20-for-21, Conger with three aces and Roorda with two. Dylan Holland was 11-for-11, with four ace serves.
Shanae Wetering led the team in kills with eight, while Conger and Ashlyn Krousie each had six.
Roorda had 17 assists, and McKeag led with 10 digs.
Sigourney is 4-15.
MSM TOURNEY UPCOMING – The Martensdale-St. Mary’s tourney is next up for Montezuma, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.
SICL TOURNEY STARTS MONDAY – That’s Oct. 14, with Montezuma traveling to Belle Plaine to play English Valleys at 5 p.m. If the Bravettes win, they will play Belle Plaine in the second match. Other pool play sites on Monday are Lynnville-Sully, Iowa Valley and North Mahaska. The tourney will continue Thursday, Oct. 17.
JVs GET WINS – Montezuma’s junior varsity beat Sigourney and last week won the SICL west division JV tournament, beating HLV in the championship match.
