Bravettes take care of Tigerhawks in 5 innings

MONTEZUMA – The Bravettes added a win to their collection, taking down Colfax-Mingo 10-0 in five innings on Thursday, June 19th.

It was a methodical and efficient win for Montezuma on Little League Night. The Bravettes scored a run in the first inning, two in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth.

The Bravettes rapped out 10 hits, while pitcher Leah Urfer allowed just two hits to the Tigerhawks.

Urfer helped her own cause with a single, a home run, and two runs batted in.

Mya Smothers, Kamryn Schmidt and Syd Burgess also each had two hits.

Smothers hit a double and drove in a run. Schmidt smacked a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.

Burgess had a double, a stolen base and a run batted in.

Vivian Cook had one hit, a double.

Ellen Cook had one hit, also a two-bagger, and an RBI.

The Bravettes stroked five doubles in all, and drove in 8 runs.

In addition, Montezuma played errorless softball afield.

Urfer pitched 4 innings, allowing the two hits and no runs. She didn’t walk a batter and struck out three.

The win lifted Montezuma to 4-6 on the season Colfax-Mingo fell to 2-10.
