Bravettes will need a bear trap

NORTH ENGLISH – The Bravettes have some work to do between now and tournament time (July 13).

Montezuma will open regional play at English Valleys that evening. That’s who the Bravettes played on Wednesday evening, July 8.

It was English Valleys with the win, 10-0 in six innings.

The Bravettes had three baserunners, but none got beyond first.

Kailey Shaffer, Katie Reynolds and Kallie Robison stroked singles for Montezuma’s three hits against eighth-grader Kennedy Axmear.

Axmear keyed an 11-hit attack by the Bears, with a home run and three runs batted in.

English Valleys had a 5-0 lead through five innings, then ended things with a five-run sixth inning.

Kallie Robison pitched the 5.2-inning distance for the Bravettes. She gave up 11 hits, a walk, hit a batter and struck out five. Four of the 10 runs scored against her were unearned.

The win lifted the Bears to 9-4 on the season. Montezuma fell to 8-8.

JV TEAM DEFEATED – English Valleys beat Montezuma 2-1 in the JV game.
