NEW SHARON – Braves wrestler Brett Plants won the 190-pound weight division at the North Mahaska Invitational tournament on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Brett was won of five Braves to make the medals stand (top 6) in the tournament.
The event involved 12 teams, and Montezuma scored 99.5 points to place sixth as a team.
Brett Plants rolled to his championship, pinning all three of his opponents.
Braxton Plants placed second at 285 pounds. He was 2-1 in the tourney, scoring a pin and a 2-0 decision on his way to the championship bout. Plants was pinned in the finals by a wrestler from team champion Solon.
Placing third for the Braves was 150-pound Owen Desrochers, who compiled a 4-1 record on the day. His wins included three pins and a decision.
Wesley Ross was fourth at 113 pounds and Cael Cheney was sixth at 120.
Competing for the Braves but not gaining top six place finishes were:
Wylie Walters at 126 pounds;
Ethan Desrochers at 132;
Rett Pargeon at 144;
Evan Haughey at 157;
and Yudiel Gonzalez at 165.
