Long-time Montezuma residents, Darrell & Sherma Brand, have seen literally hundreds if not thousands of athletic events over the years, but perhaps none of those brought bigger smiles to their faces as did the performance their granddaughter put on in Iowa City recently.
Mariel Bruxvoort and her teammates won the Larrry Wieczorek Invitational on Saturday, January 22 at the UI Recreation Building. Iowa capped the day by winning both the men’s and women’s 4 x 400-meter relays.
.For the women, Mariel Bruxvoort was the leadoff runner, sprinting two laps on the 200-meter steeped oval track, passing the Baylor runner to give her team the lead and eventually the win with a time of 3:38.95, defeating both Baylor and Purdue!
Earlier in the day while competing in an individual event, Mariel posted a personal best, 55.60 seconds, in the Jimmy Grant 400 meter Premier, placing 5th overall
