Eddie Burgess, the sophomore quarterback for Montezuma’s High School’s 6-3 football team, has been named the quarterback of The Des Moines Register’s all-state team for Class 8.
The newspaper company made the announcement Thursday, Dec. 12.
Burgess threw for 2,914 yards, a 58 percent completion rate, and 49 touchdowns. His completions averaged 17.9 yards. He even caught one pass for 18 yards.
Burgess, who is 6-4 and weighs 215 pounds, also rushed for 1,025 yards, a 6.7 per carry average, and 20 touchdowns.
Eddie made it to 70 touchdowns for the season when he returned an intercepted pass for a score.
Burgess was second on the Braves with 70.5 total tackles. Those included 11 solo tackles for loss and four sacks.
Eddie is the son of Tim and Janel Burgess.
