C-M takes down girls in five innings

COLFAX – Colfax-Mingo hit Montezuma with an eight-run second inning on its way to a 12-1 win in five innings over the Bravettes on Thursday evening, June 24.

The TigerHawks outhit the Bravettes 14-4 and played errorless softball.

Katie Reynolds, Jadyn Sharer, Laila Kercheval and Ellen Cook had the Montezuma hits.

Reynolds’ hit was a double, which drove in a run.

Joslyn Chadwick went three-for-for for Colfax-Mingo, including a double and two runs batted in.

Abigayle Rawlins hit a double and drove in three runs for the TigerHawks, who haven’t lost to the Bravettes since Colfax-Mingo was admitted to the South Iowa Cedar League several years ago.

Kallie Robison started in the circle for the Bravettes and worked 1.2 innings. She gave up 10 hits and nine runs, five of them earned. She also took the pitching defeat.

Abby Pope relieved Robison with 2.1 innings of work. She gave up four hits and two runs, both earned. Neither Montezuma pitcher walked or struck out a batter.

Kylie Doty pitched the five-inning distance for Colfax-Mingo. The run she allowed was unearned. She walked one and struck out five.

Colfax-Mingo was 13-10 overall with the win, including 10-3 against the league, which has the TigerHawks in third place.

Montezuma stood at 8-15 overall and 4-9 in SICL play.
