C.R. Christian used its edge in height

WATERLOO – Cedar Ridge Christian had one obvious advantage – height – over Montezuma when the two volleyball teams met in the Region 3, Class 1A semifinals match on Monday, Oct. 27.

The Eagles made the most of it in their 3-0 win over the Bravettes.

Cedar Ridge Christian had a 42-15 edge in kills during the match.

The set scores were testament to that: 25-17, 25-16, and 25-17. Those totals indicated a one-sided match, and it came against a Bravettes team that had won 18 consecutive matches.

Cedar Ridge Christian had a 6-3 middle hitter in senior Ana Angular, and 5-10 outside hitters on either side of her – Lydia Zekeh and Peyton Couty.

They all were there for a reason: To attack.

Zekah had 11 kills, Angular had 10 and Couty had 8.

Montezuma couldn’t keep up, thus it was Cedar Ridge Christian which moved on to the regional championship match.
