BROOKLYN – Shot at, and hit.
That was Montezuma’s volleyball team in the first two games of their match against BGM on Thursday evening, Sept. 1.
The Bears have had a tough time in volleyball in recent seasons, but they were ready for the Bravettes, and beat them 25-19 and 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead in a best-of-five match.
Fortunately for the Bravettes, the cavalry rode.
And got there in time! Montezuma won the last three sets, 25-20, 25-23 and 15-12 to take a 3-2 match victory.
It was the South Iowa Cedar League opener for both teams.
For the Bravettes, it proved the value of believing in that old axiom of “flush the past and keep on going!”
We won’t be able to post stats of this one until next week.
The Bravettes will have that much time to get ready for their next match, which will be in the GMG tournament on Saturday, Sept. 10, starting at 9 a.m.
BGM is 1-1 overall with this defeat, 0-1 in league play.
The Bravettes, 1-0 against the league, are 4-5 overall.
