Montezuma girls track Coach Megan Carlson made some observations, after the state qualifying meet on Thursday, May 11, and after the Darrell Brand Relays on Monday, May 8:

Girls Track Coach
The state qualifying track meet is always filled with emotion. One felt by the coaches was pride. The girls competed hard, supported each other, and stayed dry.
A light rain lingered throughout the evening, but the girls did not let it bother them. They warmed up together, supported each other, and continued to focus on finishing the meet strong.
We learned some lessons about fighting for every place you can get and also witnessed a few tears, both from pride and a little sadness.
The girls walked away with three events headed to the State Meet: Chloe Snook in the long jump and 200, which is a great accomplishment for a freshman. Also, Ellen Cook in the 3,000 meters. She was the first one out in this event last year. Unfortunately, she was the first one out this year in the 1,500, where she ran one of the best races of the meet.
Ellen has grown so much throughout the season and has realized that she can do so many great things.
Another highlight was listening to the announcer rave about Mia Boulton, who has done so many amazing things for Montezuma, whether in a sport, FFA, classroom or any other location she visits.
Mia will be missed dearly by the team for her selflessness and drive. We all know amazing things are ahead for her!
After the Brand Relays . .
Competing at home is one of the best experiences of the track season. Being able to put up some season-best performances and having all the girls compete made it even better.
We are blessed at Montezuma to have the Darrell Brand Relays with Darrell Brand still the starter at the meet. I do my best to explain the rich history to all of the girls and we made sure to take a team picture with a Montezuma great!
