The main goal for our guys,” said Montezuma High School wrestling Coach Josh Kriegel, “is to take something away from the sport.”

We want them to transfer it to their every day lives in the future,” he said.

That includes “establishing good work ethics, discipline and pushing through adversity,” Kriegel said. “I think wrestling will help them out down the road.”

The Braves have four wrestlers working out at present. They are:

Senior – Chance Gillum at 220 pounds;

Junior – Brian Diaz at 170;

Sophomore – Cody Walker at 195;

Freshman – Kennen Roadcap at 285.

We are a very young team, with not a lot of experience, but we want to learn as much as we can and never back down from the challenges ahead,” Kriegel said.

I am very pleased with the work our men are putting in and how fast they are learning,” said the coach. “They have their own goals in mind they want to accomplish this year.”

UP FIRST – The Braves start their season with a pair of home meets. They will host a quadrangular on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m., then it’s the Montezuma Invitational meet starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
