CONRAD – The varsity softball game between visiting Montezuma and BCLUW was pretty even in most categories – except fielding.

The Comets put up just one earned run against Montezuma’s Syd Burgess – but six Bravettes errors helped the home team to 9 runs and a 9-3 victory on Friday, June 23.

The Bravettes, who’ve been hitting the ball well since mid-season, actually out-hit the Comets 6-5 on the night.

BCLUW was leading 4-2, but went off for 5 runs in the sixth inning to take full control.

Vivian Cook had two hits for Montezuma and drove in one run.

Getting one hit each were Chloe Snook, Kam Schmidt, Syd Burgess and Lauryn Larmore. Snook and Schmidt each drove in a run.

Burgess pitched six innings. She allowed 5 hits and 9 runs – just one earned. She walked one, struck out six and hit two batters.

BCLUW lifted its record to 13-14. Montezuma went to 8-10.

A Bravettes runner is safe at third, because the fielder doesn’t yet have full control of the ball.
