Grand marshal for Montezuma’s 2022 “Let Freedom Ring” celebration was The Rev. Dr. George Salnave, accompanied in the parade by his wife, Terry, and three of their grandchildren. George was 36 when he began as the Presbyterian pastor here. He is retiring at the end of 2022 after 36 years as pastor of what is now Montezuma’s First Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Being in the parade may have been a first for George, as for many years he has been part of the announcing team for the parade. There was a large crowd on hand for the celebration, with people several rows deep on hand to watch the parade. It was a bonanza for children with sacks for the bounty of candy thrown their way by parade participants. Story and Photo by Roger Allen
