LEGRAND – You can’t tell by the team placing – ninth out of 11, with 37 points – that the Montezuma boys track team had a good night at the East Marshall Invitational, on Monday, April 10.

It was another night of improvements, all around,” said Coach John Beck.

The East Marshall meet provides great competition as we see some schools we don’t normally compete against, as well as some larger schools that generally push out some very good times,” the coach said.

The night did not disappoint as we took advantage of the nice weather and ran some very nice times,” Beck said.

That didn’t mean winning, but the boys placed third in the 4×200 relay, and fourth in the hurdle shuttle.

In the 110-meter high hurdles, Garrett Watts was fourth in 16.79 seconds, with Damien Knox fifth in 16.81 – just two one-hundreths of a second between them.

Our hurdlers continue to improve,” Beck said. “Our shuttle team cut another second off their time. Damien and Garrett both improved their times in the 110 highs, while Bryson Stockman and Luke Brennan gave strong efforts in the 400 lows.”

Beck was happy with the sprint crew. “The sprint medley has improved its time each meet. Our 4×200 continues to be ccompetitive and 4×100 put out a season-best time,” Beck said.

Handoffs still need improvement,” the coach added.

The distance guys put together a solid night. Our 4×800 team continues to get better and the distance medley had a season-best,” Beck said.

Individually, our times were better,” Beck said.

We continue to get points in our jumps and we are getting more consistent with our throws.”
