BROOKLYN – The Montezuma Braves, with pitcher Owen Cook in control from start to finish, put up eight runs in the final two innings of a 9-1 baseball win over BGM on Wednesday, May 31.
This was a 1-1 game through five innings before Montezuma got the bats going in the sixth.
Cook was a mound master, scattering five BGM hits over seven innings. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven. The BGM run against him was unearned.
The Braves rapped out 12 hits.
Cruz De Jong was two-for-four with a double and two runs batted in.
Luke Erselius was two-for-two, with both hits being doubles.
Jack Erselius was two-for-four with a run batted in.
Garrett Watts was two-for-four and Carsten James had one hit and a pair of runs batted in.
Watts, Cook and De Jong all had a stolen base for Montezuma.
Dominic Coleman pitched all seven frames for the Bears, allowed three walks and struck out two.
Coleman also had two hits and two stolen bases.
The win lifted the Braves to 2-2 on the season.
BGM fell to 2-4.
