COVID sends Twin Cedars to sidelines

Trey Shearer.

Are you ready for some football?

You may have to wait.

Montezuma’s scheduled football season opener at Twin Cedars on Friday, Aug. 28, has been canceled.

Montezuma Activities Director Tim Burgess said Monday afternoon, Aug. 24, that he’s checking with the Iowa boys’ union to see if there may be another team available for the Braves to play.

Positive COVID-19 tests among students and staff at Twin Cedars forced classes to be called off Monday and Tuesday of this week.

As it stands now, Montezuma’s first game will be Friday, Sept. 4 when Winfield-Mt. Union comes calling for the Braves’ homecoming game.

But stand by. The Braves found out about this early, so that gives them a chance to possibly find a replacement for Twin Cedars.
