Day 2: Watts places 7th in state high jump

DES MOINES – Garrett Watts placed in the Class 1A state high jump to highlight Montezuma’s Day 2 efforts at Drake Stadium on Friday, May 17.

Watts cleared 6-1, placing seventh overall and scoring two team points. The jump was near his best of the season, which was 6-2 at the SICL meet.

The Braves also competed in the 4×100 relay, and had two athletes in the 110-meter high hurdles.

In that race, Damien Knox placed 13th overall with his 15.87 clocking.

Watts was 23rd at 16.82.

In the 4×100, Braves David Rose, Broox Stockman, Alex Black and Kenny Criswell ran a 45.05. They finished in 15th place overall.

On Saturday, May 18, the Braves will compete in one state finals event: The 4×110 hurdle shuttle.

That event starts at 12:15 p.m. Montezuma’s school record quartet of Luke Brennan, Broox Stockman, Damien Knox and Garrett Watts posted the 5th-best qualifying time in Thursday’s prelims, breaking their own school record in the process.
