Deepening Braves 2nd at Lew Lundy meet

Garrett Watts cruises over the hurdles at the Lew Lundy Relays.

Tuesday afternoon and evening, April 18, “was a good night to run!” said Braves track Coach John Beck. “I was very pleased with the competitiveness of the guys.”

Montezuma won six events and finished second to Baxter in their own Lew Lundy Relays.

The Braves got wins from Garrett Watts in the high jump and Damien Knox in the long jump.

David Rose won the 100-meter dash.

Later, Montezuma runners won the 4×100, 4×200 and the hurdle shuttle relays.

We started well with firsts in both the long jump and high jump,” Beck said.

We had a nice run from our sprint medley team. Carter Michalek ran a nice 400 for us to make it a close finish at the end,” he said.

The ball kept rolling as our distance guys ran well in the 3,200 and the 4×800.”

Jayden Ross had a season-best in the 3,200 and Kohen Holland ran a personal record in the 800,” the coach said.

I thought our hurdle crew did a nice job, running near a season-best time with a moderate southeast wind hitting them,” Beck said.

We placed two in a variety of events and that helps with the team score,” Beck said. “We placed two in the 100, 400, 110 high hurdles and the 800,” said the coach.

I was very pleased with our 4×100, where we ran a season-best time. Our 3×200 also had some very nice runs in it,” Beck said.

Handoffs were better in this meet, but we will have some work to do,” he said.
