Defenses reign as girls and boys win at NM

NEW SHARON – ‘Da defenses did it big time for both the Braves and Bravettes in their basketball conference openers on Tuesday evening, Dec. 2, at North Mahaska.

The 10th-ranked (Class 1A) Bravettes squeezed by the Warhawks, 32-31, in the night’s opening game.

In boys’ action, the Braves, who have a goal of eventually being labled the best defensive team in the state, gave us a glimpse of what that might look like in a 60-44 run past North Mahaska.

The girls evened their overall record at 1-1, while the boys’ game was the season opener for both teams.

Both Montezuma teams will play at Baxter on Saturday.
