MARENGO – Montezuma’s strength in the distances keyed the Braves’ highest team total in a meet this season at the Rick Wanamaker Coed Invitational on Thursday, May 6.
The Braves compiled 72 points, good for a competitive fifth-place finish in a seven-team field.
Brydon Henning scored 24 of those team points, and fellow distance man Carter McKee was next with 16.25.
Henning won both the 800- and 1,600-meter runs, and McKee crossed the line first in the 3,200.
The Braves got three scoring place finishes in the 1,600 and two in the 3,200.
Second-place finishes came from Jayden Ross in the 3,200, Eli Bustamante in the high jump, and by the sprint medley quartet of Marty Knox, Garrett Watts, Bustamante and Henning. They were nipped at the wire by just .009 of a second.
