East Marshall meet offers chances to grow

LEGRAND – The East Marshall Invitational track and field meets in April offer a little bit of everything.

First and foremost: Some of the top small school athletes this side of the state meet compete in this one.

They all need discipline to get through it without missing a starter’s call in this 26-event extravaganza.

Like on Thursday, April 13: You can get wind-burned early in the meet, sun-burned before sunset, and frozen after it gets dark.

But when the gun is fired, you can really test yourself.

Competing against larger schools will bring some great competition and also allows for the girls to run in several different events,” said Bravettes Coach Megan Carlson.

The Bravettes were 12th out of 13 teams, with 16 points.

Highlights included a fourth place run by Ellen Cook over 3,000 meters, and sixth by Chloe Snook in the 400 dash. It’s all chronicled in the results summary below.

It was another warm weather day with some extremely windy conditions,” Carlson said. “East Marshall runs a great meet that allowed our team to see some top performances in the state.”

Our times were a little off early in the evening with the wind pushing so hard. Sometimes challenging conditions allow for the girls to grow,” the coach said.

It was a long week, with state testing, two meets, coming back from (spring) break and several girls preparing for State FFA,” Carlson said.

The stress is going to start lessening, and I know the kids will continue to grow and improve,” Carlson said. “It was wonderful being able to have everyone compete in several events.”
