BELLE PLAINE – A fast start – a 6-0 lead after two innings – keyed the Belle Plaine baseball team to a 9-3 win over Montezuma on Wednesday, June 4.
Ty Alcott hit and pitched toward the victory. He was the winning pitcher, throwing 6 innings while walking 5 and striking out 7. He allowed 5 Montezuma hits and 2 runs, both earned.
On offense, Alcott had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs.
The Braves played errorless baseball, but managed just five scattered hits.
Luke Erselius hit a double. Easton Hudnut had a single and scored a run.
Broox Stockman didn’t have a hit, but drove in a run.
Rett Pargeon, Lars Taylor and Isaac Wedgewood all had hits. Pargeon scored a run, Taylor drove in one and Wedgewood had an RBI and stole a base.
Wedgewood pitched 4 innings and gave up 9 hits and 8 runs, three of them earned. He walked one and struck out four.
Gavin Wilcox threw two innings, allowed one hit and one run, which was earned. He walked one and struck out three.
The loss dropped the Braves to 2-4 on the season.
Belle Plaine went to 2-2.
