Fast start lifts 7th grade girls

The Montezuma 7th grade girls basketball team traveled to Marengo to face Iowa Valley on December 7.

The Bravettes raced to a 13-0 lead and led 15-2 at the half. It was more of the same in the second half as Monte won 33-9.

 Monte shot 16-52 (31%) from the field and 1-2 from the free throw line. Iowa Valley was 4-27 (15%) from the field, 0-5 behind the arc and 1-8 (13%) from the free throw line.

Monte dominated the boards 41-21. Monte had 13 turnovers to 18 for the Tigers.

 Brielle Haughey led the way with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Brylee Latcham struggled with fouls but scored 8 points.

Keegan Gunderson was a stat stuffer with 4 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and a block. Mallory Warden had 2 points and 3 steals. Bailea Smith had 2 points and 2 blocks. Kady Schmidt had 3 assists and a block.

The Montezuma Bravette 7th grade moves to 5-1 on the season. They travel to Sully & Keota next week.
