Fifth inning five-spot keys girls past L-S

MONTEZUMA – The Bravettes took command with a five-run fifth inning, and rode the complete-game, seven-hit pitching of Leah Urfer to a 9-4 season-opening softball win over Lynnville-Sully.

The game was played Tuesday, May 27 in Montezuma.

The Bravettes made nine hits, two each by Urfer, Syd Burgess, Ellen Cook and Chloe Snook.

Lily Ferry scored 3 runs for the Bravettes, and Snook had 2.

Cook drove in two runs, as did Urfer and Mya Smothers.

The Bravettes stole four bases, including a pair by Vivian Cook.

Urfer walked four and struck out eight over seven innings. She had a 3.00 earned run average for the game.

Olivia Norrish went three-for-four at the plate for Lynnville-Sully, with a run batted in. Alaina Roberts had two hits and two runs batted in.

Hawks pitcher Kate Harthoorn worked six innings, allowing 9 hits and 3 walks while striking out two.
