Montezuma Lions Club called on one of its members, Montezuma Fire Chief Bill Bolen, to be its guest speaker at the club’s Nov. 13 meeting.
Bolen has been chief of the Montezuma Volunteer Fire Dept. for two years. He talked about the early history of the fire department, and the history of Fire Prevention Week dating back to 1925. He then detailed the many activities our local fire dept. does to educate children during Fire Prevention Week.
An informative question and answer discussion followed.
Chief Bolen said there are currently 26 fire dept. members, with openings for four more. A new ambulance has been on order for some time and is expected to be arriving in February. He praised the support of the community, the donations from which provide most of the funds for the department’s equipment and its operation.
