Fly the ‘W’! Braves win, Braves win!

The Montezuma Braves defeated Sigourney 61-58 in a varsity thriller on Friday evening, Dec. 15, in Montezuma.

After a 33-33 halftime tie, Montezuma built a 48-41 lead through three quarters. And then, gave it up.

But we made some big plays and just enough stops down the stretch to win,” said Montezuma Coach Derrick Dengler.

Brady Boulton had a 31-point game, on 11-for-22 shooting, including 5-for-10 on three pointers. He also sent 4-for-4 from the line, and led the Braves with 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

Boulton had help. Max Anderson scored 13 points and was 3-for-6 from three point range.

Garrett Watts scored 8 points and had 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

Others found ways to contribute.

That’s good to see with lot of guys in different roles this season,” Dengler said.

The Braves shot .423 from the field and limited Sigourney to .323 shooting. Montezuma also had a 37-31 edge in rebounding.

Dane Strong contributed 6 points, on a 2-for-2 effort on three-pointers.

The win pushed the Braves to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in league play,

Sigourney moved on with 4-3 and 3-3 records.
