Montezuma’s college student-athletes have acquitted themselves well in the pre-holidays portions of their seasons.
Here’s a quick rundown on how things have gone for them so far.
Trey Shearer
Sophomore, Truman State University
Trey has started in 11 of his team’s 12 games. He is the point guard for a team that is off to a 5-7 start.
Shearer averages 7.1 points and 25 minutes of playing time per game. His scoring average is fourth best on the team.
Overall, he is a .388 shooter from the field, which includes .375 from behind the arc.
Shearer opened with a pair of exhibition games – one against Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, and one at Purdue, now the #1 ranked team in Division 1. He scored seven points in each game.
Trey averages 1.3 rebounds per game, and has dished 15 assists in 12 games.
Eddie Burgess
Freshman, Upper Iowa University
Burgess is a football player and appeared in all 11 of the Peacocks’ games.
As a tight end, he caught 12 passes, good for 115 yards (9.58 per catch) and three touchdowns, including a long of 25 yards.
Burgess’ three touchdowns and 18 points tied him for the team lead in scoring.
Eddie also played some defense early in the season, and recorded three solo and one assisted tackle.
Shateah Wetering
Sophomore, University of Iowa
Shateah is still gaining strength after ACL surgery her freshman year. She has appeared in five games and has 30 minutes of playing time.
Shateah has made two of six field goal attempts, including two of five from three-point range. She is one-for-two from the line. That works out to 1.4 points per game.
She also has two offensive and four defensive rebounds, three assists, and one blocked shot for the nationally-ranked Hawkeyes.
Dylan Holland
Sophomore, Simpson College
Dylan has appeared in 10 games, including one start for a 3-7 team.
She has averaged 13.8 minutes per game.
Holland averages 3.9 points per game on .452 field goal shooting and .647 free throw shooting. She averages 4.7 rebounds per contest.
Elise Boulton
Sophomore, Simpson College
Elise has played in all 10 games, averaging 11.7 minutes per contest.
She has averaged 2.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and one assist per game.
Cole Watts
Sophomore, Simpson College
Cole has played in three games for the high-powered, 9-2 Storm, averaging 4.7 minutes and two points per game.
Watts is a .500 field goal shooter, and has averaged one rebound per contest.
Shanae Wetering
Sophomore, Clarke University
Shanae is another who has hooked on with a powerhouse, 10-2 team.
She has played in seven games, averaging 4.3 minutes. She is a .333 shooter thus far, averaging one point and 0.6 rebounds.
