REINBECK – Competition was close as Gladbrook-Reinbeck squeezed out a 42-37 win over Montezuma in junior varsity boys basketball Friday evening, Feb. 14.
The game was tied at 8 after one quarter, and the Rebels led 22-19 at halftime. The home team outscored the Braves by one point in each of the third and fourth quarters to account for the five-point win.
Gavin Strong scored 17 points for Montezuma. He made a trio of three-point baskets and went four-for-four from the free throw line.
Maguire DeJong scored 10 points and made a pair of treys.
Cameron Johnson scored five points and went three-for-four from the line.
Owen Cook scored four points and had five rebounds.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck won the rebound battle 35-27. Turnovers were within one of being even.
Montezuma shot .300 from the field, to Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s .340.
A total of 12 Braves saw action in the contest.
