Riley Gatton’s strong performance in a scrimmage game in Montezuma on Oct. 20 may have been a pretty good indicator of what was and is to come in her college basketball career.

Gatton scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds in her team’s 65-57 win in its official season opener.

Then, in just her second game, she poured in 26 points.

Gatton is a freshman at Des Moines Area Community College. Riley, listed at 5-8, started at small forward as the Bears defeated the William Penn junior varsity team.

Gatton’s 14 points came on five-for-10 shooting from the field, which included two-for-five from three-point range. She was two-for-two from the line. Her 14 points tied her for team honors.

Riley also had an assist, one steal, and a block.

The contest was played Friday, Nov. 1, on DMACC’s home floor in Boone.

Then, on Tuesday, Nov. 5, Riley dropped in a team-high 26 points in her team’s home win over Graceland University. Riley was 10-for-17 from the field, including 6-for-10 from behind the three-point arc.
