Girl golfers win, boys improve

Both the Braves and Bravettes competed in a dual against Keota at our home course, Montezuma Country Club, on Monday, March 14.

Our girls won with a team score of 234 over Keota’s 268.

Addilyn Ver Meer led the team again this week with a 56, earning runner-up medalist for the second meet in a row. She was  followed by Claire Erselius with a 57, Sydney Nicholas 60, and Marley Stowell 61.

The boys were defeated by Keota (166) scoring 198.

Carson Van Der Hart led the team carding a personal best round of 43. Carson was followed by Ethan Desrochers (46), Isaiah Wilson (54) and Beau Young (55). Larry Mohr (57) and Landon Wilkerson (58) also competed for varsity.

It was a very windy evening, with gusts up to 30 mph. Conditions like that made playing much more difficult, but our teams pushed through and many carded personal best rounds.

Overall, I was impressed with our ability to bounce back after a tough hole and keep our heads up. Many of our players had a hole or two with a score much higher than normal. They kept a focus on their mental game and were able to leave those scores in the past and rebound well.

Specifically, Isaiah Wilson had a hard hole on #7, but he kept a positive attitude and was still able to finish with a score in the top 4 on the team.

Van Der Hart had a very impressive round tonight and we are excited to see his hard work in the off season paying off.

Desrochers improved 10 strokes from Thursday, and another player improved 9.

Overall, it was a great night and we are looking forward at competing again at Knoll Ridge Country Club against Belle Plaine and English Valleys.
