Girl tracksters get out to a fast start

Off, into the sunset . . .

BELLE PLAINE – It had been quite a while since the Montezuma Bravettes had competed in a track meet.

Coach Megan Carlson said it was 682 days, exactly.

But the Bravettes picked up where they left off.

Montezuma won five events, placed second in seven, and placed in all of them in winning their division of the Lady Plainsmen Relays on Tuesday, March 30.

Montezuma had performed well in its last previous meet almost two years ago, “and they did a great job for a first meet of the season,” Carlson said. “The wind was blowing and it was very cold, but that did not stop the girls from getting out and competing,” the coach said.

The Bravettes rolled up 155 team points in out-running an eight team field. BGM was second at 96.

Sprinter Katie Reynolds was an individual double winner for Montezuma, taking the 400-meter dash in 1:09.48 and the 100 in 14.62 seconds.

Reynolds was in on a third win when she anchored the Bravettes’ winning sprint medley team. The other runners were Coral Lowry, Madison Johannes and Ash Krousie. Their time for the event was 2:04.76.

Krousie also won the 200-meter dash in 30.69, and was second in the long jump at 13-8.

The Bravettes swept the top three places in the 3,000-meter run. Elise Boulton won in 12:38.50, and she was followed across the finish line by Ashlee Eilander and Makenna Johannes, respectively.

Elise Bouldon was second in the 1,500 in 6:02.00, and Alivia Cline was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 85.49. The cold and windy conditions made the 400-hurdles a particularly difficult experience.

The Bravettes placed second in three relay events.

With so many young girls (on the team) it was a challenge to move them around in a variety of events to see what will work best for them as individuals and for the team,” Carlson said. “This group is very positive and willing to do what is needed for team and individual growth.”

The girls scored in every event and that depth will help them continue to be successful in the conference race,” Carlson said.

Hopefully, the weather will improve.”

UP NEXT – The Bravettes are at PCM on Tuesday, April 6, starting at 4:30 p.m.
