Girls 6th in JH state XC meet

ANKENY – Montezuma’s junior high girls placed sixth out of 17 scoring teams at the 32nd State Middle School Championshp cross country meet, held Saturday, Oct. 18 at Ankeny Centennial.

The Bravettes’ team score was 124.

Montezuma athletes Ava Anderson, Brea Cheney, Addi Ross, Teagan Sutherland and Lucy Semprini all earned medals for their finishes in the team race.

Ava Anderson was second in the overall race for individuals. Her time, 12:13.4, was just off the 12:11.18 posted by Abigail Miller of Durant.

There were 147 total runners.

Our junior high girls did a great job as a team,” said Montezuma Coach Kevin Gartman.

We had some significant cuts from our last two-mile run at Clear Creek-Amana,” said the coach.
