Girls, Boys will open tourneys at home!

The post-season is very exciting and it all starts very soon - at home! (Allyson Fillmore file).

Both Montezuma High School basketball teams are top-seeded in their respective Class 1A regional/districts for post-season play.

Both have first-round byes and both could play their first two games at home!

GIRLS

Baxter and BGM will square off on Feb. 13, for the right to play Montezuma at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 in the north gym.

Number 4 seed Meskwaki Settlement will play HLV on Thursday, Feb. 13, while Collins-Maxwell takes on GMG the same day. The two winners will meet on Feb. 18.

The Feb. 18 winners will meet in the regional semifinals on Feb. 21 in Montezuma.

Below those teams in the bracket, are second-seeded Springville and third-seed Sigourney, who could collide in the other semifinal.

The semifinal winners play for the regional title, on Wednesday, Feb. 26, either in Williamsburg or at West High in Iowa City. That winner advances to the state tournament in Des Moines.

BOYS

The Braves will open at home on Thursday, Feb. 20, against the winner of HLV vs. Twin Cedars, who meet Monday, Feb. 17, in North English.

Fourth-seeded North Mahaska plays Moravia on Feb. 20. The two Feb. 20 winners will meet in the regional semifinals Tuesday, Feb. 25 in Montezuma.

In the lower bracket, Keota is the number two seed and and BGM is seeded third and potentially could meet in the semifinals.

The two semifinals winners play for the regional title Thursday, Feb. 27, in Williamsburg, for the right to advance to the state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.
