Girls can’t match Tri-County’s hitting

Tri-County’s softball team had its hitting shoes on Tuesday evening, June 29, in Montezuma.

The Trojans outhit the Bravettes 14-6 in a 10-4 SICL win, giving them a split with Montezuma on the season.

It also was the first Tri-County win over Montezuma since 2013. The Bravettes had won 20 in a row over the Trojans.

But the Bravettes were playing catch-up in this one after Tri-County scored six runs in the second inning.

Macy Schmidt swung the biggest bat for Tri-County, going three-for-four with a home run and six runs batted in.

The Bravettes made their move in the third, when they scored two runs, and made it a 6-4 game by plating two in the fifth.

But Tri-County scored four in the sixth, and cruised in to the win.

Madison Van Zee went two-for-four and had a stolen base for Montezuma.

Katie Reynolds, Jadyn Sharer, Laila Kercheval and Kallie Robison all had one hit each for Montezuma.

Reynolds had a stolen base.

Sharer hit a double and knocked in a run.

Kercheval drove in two runs.

Izzy Roorda had an RBI for Montezuma, and Jordan Ranfeld stole a base.

Robison pitched all seven innings. Seven of the 10 runs scored against her were earned. She didn’t walk a batter, hit one, and struck out six.

In addition to Schmidt, Lilly Randall and Alyssa Conrad had three hits each for Tri-County.

Delanie Little pitched all seven frames for Tri-County. She gave up four earned runs, walked three and struck out two.

The Bravettes fell to 8-17 overall and to 4-11 in league play.

Tri-County went to 3-15, including 3-13 against the league.

UP NEXT – The Montezuma softball and baseball teams are scheduled to play at HLV on Wednesday, June 30.
