Girls celebrate successful season

Members of Montezuma’s varsity girls basketball team took a look back at their successful season which ended at the state tournament when players, coaches and families gathered at the Longhorn Saloon in Barnes City.

Highlights included:

Receiving various individual awards.

Senior Ellen Cook was re-honored for receiving the Iowa Bankers Association Student Achievement Award for Class 1A. She was presented the award at Wells Fargo Arena by her father, Kyle Cook, of Montezuma State Bank.

Ellen also was honored for setting a new school record for most steals in one game, 12, and for career assists with 319.

It also was announced this week that Ellen will be signing her National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, March 12, to attend Drake University, where she will participate in cross country.

Vivian Cook was honored for setting a new school record for most three-pointers in a season, with 81.

All-SICL Team selections were re-introduced. They include:

First team – Ellen Cook, unanimous;

First team – Shiressa Wetering;

Second team – Vivian Cook;

Second team – Claire Erselius;

Honorable mention – Syd Burgess.
