SULLY – The 2022-23 edition of the Bravettes showed a sense of urgency in their first appearance of the new basketball season on Monday evening, Nov. 14.

Trailing PCM 15-12 after one quarter, the Bravettes clamped on the defense, outscored the Mustangs 14-5 in the second period, and “won” by a 26-20 score.

We write “won” because this was a jamboree game, which doesn’t count in the won-loss standings. It’s a scrimmage, played under game conditions.

Ellen Cook paced Montezuma scorers with seven points. Mia Boulton and MJ Johannes had five each. Shiressa Wetering scored four, Kallie Robison had three and Jadyn Sharer had two points.

The Bravettes shot .400 from the field on 8-for-20. PCM was at .316 on 6-for-19.

The Mustangs had a 12-8 lead in rebounds.

The Bravettes had eight steals, with Johannes leading with four.

Montezuma had five assisted baskets, Boulton leading with two.

Ten girls played for the Bravettes, with six scoring points.

UP NEXT – The Bravettes open their regular season at home against Pella Christian, on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
