MARENGO – The Montezuma Bravettes dominated the boards, dictated tempo, and beat Iowa Valley 70-29 Tuesday evening, Jan. 14.
The Bravettes (11-0) dominated rebounds by a 30-12 margin, and made those second-chance opportunities count.
Montezuma got 17 more shot attempts and fired at a .516 rate, while the Tigers (7-4) shot .382.
Shateah Wetering poured in 26 points to lead scoring, while Elise Boulton scored 17 and Maddy McKeag made eight.
Coach Janel Burgess is continuing to develop a team that is ready in the event a defense tries to stop Wetering by having other players step up. Five Bravettes average between four and seven points and are capable of scoring in double figures in any given game. McKeag is one of those.
Montezuma led 28-10 after one quarter and 46-15 at halftime. It was 62-26 through three.
Shateah Wetering’s 26 came on eight-for-12 shooting from the field and included a pair of three-pointers.
Wetering got herself to the free throw line in this game, and was eight-for-eight from there. She added five rebounds, five assists, two deflections and a blocked shot.
Elise Boulton got her 17 on seven-for-15 shooting and dropped in three from behind the arc. She also had three assists.
McKeag’s eight included two treys. She also had four steals and three deflections.
Dylan Holland grabbed seven rebounds to lead Montezuma in that department.
