Girls’ defense squeezes Bears, 64-18

BROOKLYN – Montezuma put the squeeze on BGM’s offense – start to finish – in a 64-18 win over the Bears in girls varsity basketball on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

The most points BGM scored in any quarter was six.

Four Bravettes scored in double figures, with Ellen Cook and Claire Erselius each with 15 points, and Vivian Cook and Syd Burgess each with 14.

Ellen Cook just missed a double-double when she added 9 assists to her total.

Burgess had a nice all-around game with her 14 points, to which she added 6 rebounds, 5 steals and an assist.

The Bravettes led 22-5 after one quarter, 47-11 at halftime and 62-15 through three periods.

The Bravettes had a strong shooting game, firing 22-for-52 from the field (.423). They also went 11-for-16 from the free throw line.

Erselius went 4-for-6 from behind the arc, helping the Bravettes to a 9-for-20 night on treys.

The win lifted Montezuma to 12-4 on the season.

BGM went to 5-11.
