Girls drop SICL opener in 5 sets

BELLE PLAINE – The Bravettes had Belle Plaine leaning, but couldn’t put them away.

Montezuma won the first set over Belle Plaine, but lost the next two to trail 2-1 in the match. The Bravettes regained momentum by winning set four, 25-19.

But momentum hopped back over the net in the tie-breaker as Belle Plaine won 15-11 to take the match, 3 set to 2.

It was the conference opening match for the Bravettes.

Sydnee Burgess led the Bravettes in four statistical categories: kills (12), blocks (6), digs (18) and serves (22-for-25, with three aces).

Chloe Snook led in assists with 16.

The defeat dropped Montezuma to 3-7 for the season.

Belle Plaine rose to 4-5.

Next action for the Bravettes is at the Green Mountain-Garwin tourney on Saturday, Sept. 14.
