Girls fall short at Belle Plaine

BELLE PLAINE – The Bravettes had the lead for a good part of the way, but wound up on the short end of an 8-6 score at Belle Plaine on a wickedly hot and humid Tuesday evening, July 7.

Montezuma put up five runs in the third inning to grab a 5-2 lead.

But Belle Plaine chipped away, closing to within a run with two in the fifth, before scoring three in the sixth to grab the final lead, 8-6.

Chloe Latcham had two of Montezuma’s seven hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Katie Reynolds hit a double and drove home two.

Kailey Shaffer had a hit, drove in a run and stole a base.

Catcher Carissa Van Zee had a single and threw out two base runners.

Kallie Robison and Kassidy Mathes had Montezuma’s other two hits.

Jadyn Sharer had an RBI and a stolen base, while Haylee Walters stole a base.

Sharer, the second baseman, threw out four runners and recorded a pair of putouts.

Robison pitched all six innings for Montezuma. She allowed eight runs, five of which were earned. She didn’t walk and batter and struck out four.

The Bravettes emerged with an 8-7 season record.

Belle Plaine went to 5-9.

JV GIRLS FALL – Belle Plaine also won the JV game, 9-7.
