BELLE PLAINE – It was too cold, too wet, too windy, or all the teams couldn’t come.

But finally, the Belle Plaine Invitational – the outdoor season opener for most of the track and field teams – was run, on Friday, April 1, a sunny but cool day and early evening.

After a few weeks of practice and some crazy weather to start the season, the girls were excited to compete for the first time,” said Bravettes Coach Megan Carlson.

It wound up being a coed meet, and wasn’t split into enrollment classes as had been scheduled. “Overall, I was proud of how the girls came out and competed against some loaded squads,” Carlson said.

This is a very young group that is eater to work hard in so many different events,” she said.

Alivia Cline placed second in the 400 low hurdles.

Montezuma’s 4×800 relay quartet also took fourth. Runners were Willow Young, Kylee Larmore, Makenna Johannes and Aja Kapayou.

We need to continue to focus on growth and improvement to help the programs throughout the building,” Carlson said. “The enthusiasm and willingness of this group is unmatched and I am excited to watch them improve throughout the season,” she said.
