It’s rare when you find the Montezuma girls on the wrong end of a one-sided basketball game.

But it happened on Friday, Feb. 2, when Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, the number #5 team in Class 2A, put a 41-point shot on the Bravettes.

Friday night was definitely a unique situation,” said Bravettes Coach Janel Burgess. “EBF is a very good team; the best we have seen so far this season.”

We were exposed in many areas, which is OK because now we can focus on those areas as we push through post-season,” Burgess said.

Tonight, Monday, Feb. 5, a Class 3A team – Williamsburg – invades Montezuma for the girls’ regular season finale.

The Raiders were rated #15 in 3A last week, but have fallen out of the poll.

Williamsburg brings a 12-7 record in to face the 17-3 Bravettes.

Carly Rich scores 13.3 points per game. Zoe Allen averages 9.7 points and 5.9 rebounds. And Kennedy Skaggs scores 12 points a game.

Both teams average 54 points on offense against their respective opponents. The Raider yield 43 per game; the Bravettes give up 33.

We schedule tough opponents down the stretch to help us grow,” Burgess said. “We will grow from Friday and tonight.”

We are eager to keep pushing on,” said the coach.
