BELLE PLAINE – The Montezuma Bravettes splashed down 13 three-point baskets and made the necessary defensive adjustments in an 80-30 run past Belle Plaine on Tuesday evening, Jan. 12.

Sophomore guard Mia Boulton connected on eight of those three-pointers and scored 27 points in all to help keep Montezuma perfect in conference play at 10-0. The Bravettes are 13-1 overall. Mia was eight-for-17 from behind the arc, which is excellent shooting on three-pointers.

The Bravettes led 24-7 after one quarter. Belle Plaine’s best quarter was the second when the Plainsmen put up 10 points, some of those coming at the rim after some nice drives.

But the Bravettes passed their way back into an offensive rhythm in the latter stages of the period and led 40-17 at halftime.

Montezuma forced a continuous clock midway through the third quarter. The Bravettes led 65-23 after three.

Forward Shanae Wetering gave the Bravettes 17 points and consistent play inside and on the perimeter.

Guard Elise Boulton scored 14 and post forward Dylan Holland had nine points and 13 rebounds. Elise also had eight assists and four steals.

The Bravettes made just five turnovers, and helped to create 23 by jumping into Belle Plaine’s passing lanes.

Belle Plaine was another team from the eastern side of the conference that came in with a healthy record. The Plainsmen are now 8-5 overall, including 6-4 in the South Iowa Cedar League.
