MARENGO – The Bravettes will tell you: They had fun doing track and field on Thursday evening, May 6.
Closer to full strength, Montezuma put Monday’s third-place experience at the SICL Meet behind them and rolled to their fourth invitational meet win of the season.
This one was at the Rick Wanamaker Coed Invitational. The Bravettes put up 153 points, blowing past Belle Plaine (101), a team that had come in ahead of them at the conference meet.
A total of 19 Bravettes scored team points in this one, including eight who put up 10 or more. “After a strong finish in the SICL meet, the girls were ready to have some fun and also still perform well,” Coach Megan Carlson said. “Heading over on a great weather night, the girls ran outstanding and had many top finishes, as well as season-best performances.”
Senior Dylan Holland did much of the “heavy lifting”, winning both throws events and scoring 23 team points.
Holland won the discus with a season’s best of 95 feet, 9 inches. She won by more than a foot as she is starting to flirt with the 100-feet mark.
Holland also won the shot put at 30 feet, 8 inches.
Several other girls took their turns in the individual event winner’s circle.
Madison Van Zee won the 100-meter dash in 14.27 seconds.
Haley Van Der Hart took the 1,500 in 6:13.28, winning a duel to the finish by about one second.
Alivia Cline won the 400-meter hurdles by three seconds in 1:18.02.
Montezuma’s other win was in the 4×400, where Ash Krousie, Van Zee, Laila Kercheval and Alivia Cline went around four times in 4:45.76.
“Overall, the night was fun, filled with smiles, and made for a great evening,” Carlson said.
Coral Lowry and Krousie took second and third, respectively, in the high jump with leaps of 4-6 and 4-4.
Carmen Klos gave the Bravettes a second-place finish in the long jump.
The Bravettes placed second in three relays, the 4×100, the 4×800 and the 1,600 distance medley.
UP NEXT – The Bravettes and Braves host the Darrell Brand Relays on Monday, May 10.
