Girls get 6 hits, but fall by 8-4 score

KEOSAUQUA – Montezuma’s second game of the Van Buren tournament on Saturday, June 3, was against the home team, Van Buren County, which beat the Bravettes, 8-4.

Van Buren led 4-3 through three innings, then plated four runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-3 lead.

Eighth grader Leah Urfer got her first varsity start in the circle.

She allowed six hits and three of the runs scored against her were unearned. She walked three and struck out five.

Six different Bravettes got one hit each.

Kamryn Schmidt drove in a run with her hit. Other hits, all singles, were by Chloe Snook, Izzy Roorda, Laila Kercheval, Urfer and Jordan Ranfeld.

Snook, Roorda and Abby Pope each stole a base for the Bravettes.

Montezuma fell to 3-5 overall, while Van Buren County lifted its mark to 5-3.
