Girls get a win, then it rained

MELCHER-DALLAS – The Bravettes were poised to make their first appearance Saturday in the Coal Miner’s Classic, a four-team tournament hosted by Melcher-Dallas.

The Bravettes did make that appearance – they ran past the host team 10-1 – then the rains came and washed out the rest of the day’s play on Saturday, June 24.

But, the win evened Montezuma’s record at 11-11, with several more chances to improve that left on the regular season schedule.

The Bravettes scored three runs in the third inning, three more in the fourth and finished with four in the seventh.

Melcher-Dallas scored its run in the first and was blanked the rest of the way.

Kallie Robison worked the first six innings, allowing three hits, one run which was earned, while walking two and striking out four.

Leah Urfer pitched an inning in relief.

The Bravettes played an errorless game.

Ellen Cook went two-for-four at the plate, with a double and a run batted in.

Four other Bravettes hit one single each.

Madison Van Zee added a stolen base to her hit. Robison knocked in a run with hers. Kamryn Schmidt batted in a run.

Izzy Roorda drove in two with her base knock.

Jadyn Sharer didn’t get a hit, but put the ball in play and drove in two runs.

Lily Ferry stole a base.

Melcher-Dallas fell to 9-20 on the season.
