WILLIAMSBURG – A short-handed Bravettes team went off in search of tough volleyball teams to compete against. They found some against larger schools in the Williamsburg tournament on Saturday, Sept. 12.
The Bravettes started well with a 2-0 win over Centerville.
But up next came 2-0 defeats at the hands of West Liberty, Grand View Christian and Williamsburg.
Montezuma was without the services of key front-liner Korrinn Kehoe and all-around ace Ash Krousie.
Krousie was ill, and “Korrinn sprained her ankle on Tuesday about 10 minutes into the game,” said Bravettes Coach Katie Dunlap. “So we had to play four to six girls in positions different from what they normally play. It was a challenging day for the team because of all the changes. However, it’s in moments like these when teams grow the most.”
“We know these teams represented larger schools, but if we would have had our full squad and time to adjust, I believe we would have come out a little better,” the coach said.
West Liberty was 14-0 and ranked seventh in Class 3A when the Bravettes met them.
The 1-3 result leaves the Bravettes with an overall mark of 2-4.
The Bravettes will need to flush the weekend’s results mentally, and hopefully gain from some of the experience, as they swing into conference play this week.
“I am proud of my team’s ability to try and go with the flow in a not-so-typical year,” Dunlap said.
