The Bravettes and Lenox were tied at 20-20 of their regional championship game at Indianola.
“We kept it very simple in the locker room at halftime,” said Montezuma Coach Janel Burgess. “We knew there were two keys to winning the game: Rebounding and finishing possessions by rebounding or getting to the paint on offense.”
“We did a great job of rebounding,” she said. “Our box-outs were much better in the second half. And we calmed down on offense.”
The Bravettes outscored Lenox 23-8 in the third quarter to take over the game.
“We finally found the open paint areas,” the coach said.
Guards Ellen Cook and Vivian Cook led the way on the boards. Each had 9 rebounds in the game. Sophomore forward Syd Burgess had 7.
“We were so proud of our players’ ability to embrace the moment and not over-react when shots were not falling or they were out-rebounding us,” Burgess said.
“We’re so excited to take this team to The Well. We have the opportunity to keep playing in March, which is amazing.”
