I waited a day or two to get Coach Janel Burgess’ reactions via e-mail to Montezuma’s final game of the season, against Algona Bishop Garrigan.

‘I was impressed most by the quickness of the Bishop Garrigan defense,” I wrote. “Their lateral movement in getting two people to the ball was something.”

In the third quarter, you put some things together. That’s a credit to you and the girls, for hanging in there. Overall, the fact this young team improved enough to get to state was impressive!,” I wrote.

Janel replied, “I absolutely cannot disagree with you at all.”

We had a great run. We are disappointed in our final game for sure, but that does not take away from the overall success of this season,” Burgess wrote.

We grew as people and as a team.”

And, as she always does, she wrote, “Thank you for always caring and covering our program.”
